Campaign Summary – 8th September 1813

1st Austrian division has suffered the consequences of trying to hold Obernzell against odds of two to one and with a major river at their back.   General Lichtenstein ordered a retreat to the east bank as soon as he realised the odds he was facing.   He managed to reach the river, but had to deploy to delay the enemy and allow him to cross the bridge.   He managed to withdraw one infantry brigade intact to cover the retreat, but the remainder were cut down or broke and ran.   This was a disaster for the 1st Austrian corps and would mean that Lichtenstein would have to hold the northern flank with only his 2nd division against the full strength of 7th Bavarian corps.

2nd Austrian corps has retreated to Withering to rally and regroup.

8th French corps have entered Raab and are reorganising and awaiting the result of the fighting at Obernzell.

3rd Austrian corps have retreated to Wels, where they are joined by the Austrian reserve.   They are also attempting to rally and regroup.

9th French corps, together with the French reserve,  have halted at Vockabruck to regroup.

The French army have now crossed the river Inn and are preparing for the final push.
