All quiet on
the northern front as both 1st Austrian and 7th French
corps resupplied, rested and reinforced their divisions. However General Lichtenstein has allowed a
large gap to develop between his two corps, at last a full days march. If General Wrede takes advantage of this
tactical error the Austrians could suffer a serious defeat.
General
Klenau is lulled into a false sense of security by the deployment of only one
French division on the west bank of the river Inn. He takes advantage of this apparent pause to
resupply and reinforce 2nd Austrian corps. However General Bertrand orders his 11th
division to attack towards Raab, while sending his 5th division
south over the river then east along the river bank to support them. A very risky tactic, but he pulls it off and
defeats the Austrians.
Another surprise
for the Austrians in the south. Having
won the first day of the battle of Vockabruck, General Lederer orders 2nd
Austrian corps to advance and occupy the town.
He is unaware that 9th French corps has had 4th
division (who suffered most casualties) replaced by 2nd (Young
Guard) division. A second day of battle
is fought at Vockabruck and this time the Austrians defeated and forced to
retreat.
