1600 7th
September 1813
Archduke Charles has ordered 1st Austrian corps to retire to Rohrbach, but to do so in coordination with 2nd corps at Raab.
Lichtenstein
orders his 1st division to hold Obernzell, whilst his 2nd
division retreats to Rohrbach. In doing
so he runs the risk that he will not be able to concentrate his corps should he
be attacked by 7th Bavarian corps.
His two
divisions are now a whole day’s march apart and worse still divided by the
river Danube.
Both
divisions are low on supplies, and he wants to resupply before ordering 1st
division to fall back to Rohrbach.
The Bavarians
have made no move to take advantage of this opportunity. But if they do so it is hard to see how 1st
division could withdraw over the river Danube without heavy casualties.
